New Elementary School Under Construction in Gainesville
Have you noticed the new elementary school under construction on NW 39th Avenue? If so, I’m sure you are aware, Alachua County Public Schools is in the process of building the new elementary school “H” in the northwestern part of our community. This will require that we redraw school boundaries in that area. You may want to follow the meetings or provide input to the rezoning hearings. The School Board is scheduled to vote on new boundaries on February 21, 2012.
Alachua County thought the members of the Gainesville/Alachua County Association of Realtors® might be interested in the documents, which include a Frequently Asked Questions sheet about the process and a two-sided Fact Sheet which can be easily duplicated and/or forwarded.
The Fact Sheet contains information about a special website (www.sbac.edu/~wpops/ElementaryH) that has been established to provide the public with more details, including a map of the proposed school zones for the 2012-13 school year.
The Fact Sheet includes a timeline of the rezoning process, including the dates, times and locations for two public input sessions that have been scheduled for December 2011. It also includes an email address that citizens can use to contact the members of the School Board with their suggestions (zoninginput@gm.sbac.edu). You might want to make a suggestion for NAMING the SCHOOL !! The SBAC has plans to finalize a name by January 2012.
Please feel free to spread the word and get others involved. For more information contact Jackie Johnson.
