Homeownership Can Make You A Happier Person

March 13, 2020 by Chris Bohn

Homeownership Can Make You A Happier Person

As the old saying goes, you can’t buy happiness. But you can buy a home. And according to a new study, that’s pretty much the same thing. I do believe that homeownership can make you a happier person.  Of course it’s important to consider all options in your personal life plans. In our local Gainesville area, there are many people frustrated by high rental rates locally.

According to the 2019 Fall Homebuyer Insights Report from Bank of America, a whopping 93% of people surveyed said that owning a home makes them happier than they were when renting.

But why, exactly, has homeownership caused such a major increase in happiness? 76% of homeowners said they started pursuing new hobbies after purchasing their home. This includes landscaping & gardening (47%), cooking/baking/grilling (45%), and interior design/remodeling (33%). Then there are 67% said their relationships with family and loved ones has changed since purchasing a home. The breakdown on this isn giving their family a sense of pride (47%) and allowing homeowners to entertain more (49%).

And I know that many renters in our Gainesville area would like to have a fenced back yard for kids or for their doggies. It you are wanting to make a shift from rental market to being a homeowner, please give us a call and let’s get to work!

The Takeaway:

Buying a home gives you more happiness bang-for-your-buck than any other purchase—so not only is it a sound financial investment, but it’s a sound emotional investment as well.
