Signs of a Dog-friendly House
Embarking on a home search for a property that must be approved by furry, tail-wagging family members? You will need a dog-friendly house and a pet friendly neighborhood. Here are a few things to look for. Let’s find you a dog-friendly house!
1. Greener grass
Does the home have a yard? Just a little bit of a fenced-in grass can be your pup’s paradise. Be sure to check that the HOA allows you to put in a fence tall enough to keep your pooch in.
2. Proximity to play areas
Look for homes within walking distance to trails, open space and dog parks. Do you like the way the neighborhood feels and will it be nice to take your pooch for a nice, safe walk?
3. Your very own pack
Check out the neighbors’ properties for evidence of other dogs in the neighborhood, like dog toys in yards, dog doors and dog-related bumper stickers on cars.
4. Condominium & Townhome Communities
In some areas, finding condo communities that allow dogs can be challenging. Your Realtor should be able to help with knowing which condo communities allow pets. Each association has rules and regs. Also the local animal shelter usually keeps lists of pet-friendly communities. If you want to know more about condos in the area, check out our Gainesville Condominium Page for each community!
5. Storage for Fido
A designated space for keeping leashes, toys and other belongings is a blessing when it comes to keeping the rest of your home clean (or, cleaner).
6. Camouflage
Wall-to-wall white, plush carpet is not what you’re looking for. Neither are gorgeous softwoods just waiting to be scratched. Look for homes with resilient flooring that’s easily cleaned.
7. Doggie door
Dog doors offer your pooch (and you) a fabulous taste of freedom. Check whether a home has a convenient place to put one. Sliding glass doors, french doors, and screen patios.
8. Fencing
Does the home have a backyard? Is it already fenced? If not, find out if there are any fencing restrictions. In our area, if a home backs to a golf course, fencing is not allow.
We sure want to know what our buyers want in their next home. So make sure you convey your dog-friendly priorities to your agent too. We welcome the opportunity to be YOUR Realtor in Gainesville FL.
