How you prepare your home can make a huge impact on your home sale. When your house is staged well, it appeals to more buyers. Avoid these kitchen staging mistakes, as the buyers will be impressed during their showing. The opposite is may happen when your home isn’t staged well, it can act as a roadblock on the path to selling your property. Let’s share some home seller tips!
Your Realtor, hopefully me, should have a good feel for how to stage and prepare your home for showings. This will include the exterior curb appeal, or the interior condition of your home too!
But what, exactly, should you avoid when staging your kitchen? A recent article from realtor.com outlined common kitchen staging mistakes that could make it harder to sell your home, including:
- Cluttered countertops. When showing your home, you want your kitchen to seem as spacious as possible. But leaving too much stuff on your countertops is a surefire way to make the space feel cluttered. While it’s fine to leave high-end items (like a stand mixer or espresso machine) on the counter, make sure to clear off any unnecessary clutter or kitchen gadgets.
- Leaving up too many personal items. Many people use their refrigerators as a place to show off family photos and other personal items, like children’s drawings, or report cards. But those kinds of personal items and decor can make it harder for would-be buyers to picture themselves in the space, so make sure you remove any personal items from your kitchen, as well as the rest of your home!
- Skipping a deep clean. Many buyers like to get into all the nooks and crannies of a home before they decide to make an offer. And even if your kitchen looks clean, chances are, there’s plenty of dirt and grime hiding in places like the grout, stovetop, and around the sink faucet. Before you list your home, make sure to have it professionally deep cleaned. If you regularly cook at home, a professional deep clean will also remove cooking smells from the space, making it more appealing to buyers.
- Lighting. A well-lit kitchen is of the utmost importance to buyers, as they will immediately notice the dark spaces in your kitchen. Another solution is to install under-cabinet lighting. LED strip lights are a popular choice as they can be applied easily without the help of an electrician.
