New Water & Irrigation Rules in Alachua County
Tonight we get to FALL back with our time change, but all of us in Alachua County will now have new rules & limits for winter irrigation. Our county spans two water management areas, so this year both the Suwannee River District and the St. Johns River Water Management District have agreed to use the same schedule.
Our Alachua County Environmental Protection Department will enforce the winter restrictions, and has the authority to write citations and levy fines. The restrictions will be enforced with mailings of “warnings and education”, but violators will get certified mail & fines levied.
We are now limited to ONE DAY for irrigation to all of our green space.
Here is the schedule
- SATURDAYS only for residential addresses with an odd-number house or no house address.
- SUNDAYS only for residential addresses with an even-number house number.
- TUESDAYS only for businesses and other non-residential properties and the common areas of condo & apartment complexes
- NO IRRIGATION is allowed between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
These restrictions DO APPLY to private wells, city water systems, and surface water systems.
Hand-held hoses with a spray nozzle are exempt. Micro-irrigation and reclaimed water are exempt as well. Our personal vegetable gardens and fruit trees are also exempt.
Let’s all work hard to follow the rules this winter season!
