We’ve had some record low temperatures here in Gainesville. For me, I am always anxious to build a fire and enjoy the fireplace in my living room. This morning it was 26, and it’s forecast to be colder tonight. I am NOT complaining….yet. I am in a nesting mood. Cold weather makes me want to bake…but tonight it’s just couch time in front of the fire.
The comforts of home are soothing and relaxing. I wanted to share what makes tonight a serene winter night at my home. It’s a quiet night in the house. My son is at a school event this evening, and my hubby is down at his workshop getting work done on his latest project – I call it his man cave.
I love my fireplace. I have plenty of lighter wood and my homemade fire-starters. So getting a fire going is quick and easy. My hubby brings a cart of wood to the back door for easy access. I’m almost out of last winter’s cord of oak – so I need to call my woodman tomorrow for a delivery.
A good definition of “nesting” is being able to pile up on my couch after a warm, tasty dinner. Tonight was my killer Chili and Cornbread. It’s a family favorite. I got the fire going, and turned on my lap-top to do a bit of web surfing in the blogosphere. I looked up from the computer screen to just stare at the fire. It’s so relaxing….. and I had to go get a camera to take some shots of the comforts of MY home.
We’ve got two cats. This one is Nebula, and her nickname is Little One. She is snoozing on a pillow like a queen. She doesn’t like the cold weather at all. Both of the cats will get on a rip-snort and race around the house playing when the weather gets cold. But by the time a fire gets going, they are ready to crash out in the living room.
Our second cat is Galaxy, and her loving nickname is Fat Girl. That she is…and she is also crashed out here in the living room.
Time to get another log on the fire. My hubby just came in to announce the thermometer shows 22 degrees and it’s just 8:30pm. All the outside faucets are dripping and wrapped, all the plants are covered and secured.
It’s gonna be a cold one. I’m really enjoying the comforts in the Bohn family home on this cold winter night.
Time for a comfort snack!
