Fall Back and Step Up
I’m sure most everyone knows that we set our clocks back one hour when we go to bed Saturday night. You know…..Fall Back. November is my month of gratitude and thankfulness. Many of us on FaceBook participate in the 30 days of Thanks in November, and share status updates on what we are thankful for each day.
Today I thought of a great slogan for the 1st of November…..Fall Back and Step Up.
Step Up and do something to make a difference. Step up to the plate and find a few small things YOU can do in your own community to help others. It doesn’t have to be big dollars – just the smallest things can make a difference. We can all step up with our hearts and help.
I’ve found a couple of ways to STEP UP and do things in my community. Go ahead and think about your community and come up with ideas too. Even the little things can make a BIG difference to others.
Here’s my plan to STEP UP.
1. Donate Food to our local Bread of the Mighty Food Bank – The thought of people going hungry has always bothered me. I plan to take advantage of BOGO’s all month at my local Publix. We’ve got a big food drive going on with our Board of Realtors®. So, clean out your pantry….do I really need 8 cans of green beans? My goal is to get some good groceries to Bread of the Mighty this month!
2. Donate Clothes – My son moved out on his own and left quite a bit of clothes & shoes here at home. I recently asked him if he was going to get them. He said no. So, those clothes have been folded and stacked and are ready to get delivered to the White and Blue Boxes for “clothes and shoes” for Alachua Habitat For Humanity. So while you are out driving, start to notice all those donation boxes around Gainesville. It’s for a good cause.
3. Donate Blankets, Coats, and Household Items – In Gainesville, we’ve got a place that will take these items and give them to people that NEED them. You can bring these items to the St. Francis House in Downtown Gainesville. So, take a peak in your linen closets….you just might have something that could make someone WARMER. Just pull up to their side door, and they will welcome your donations! The St. Francis house is a homeless shelter that provides services for immediate needs, transitional and permanent housing for men, women and children.
If everyone did something, it would make a big difference.
Make November your month to STEP UP and find places to help!
