September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Children's Oncology Group
Children’s Oncology Group

Families, caregivers, charities and research groups across the United States observe September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the U.S., almost 13,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year; approximately 1/4 of them will not survive the disease.

The Children’s Oncology Group, a clinical trials group supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to pediatric cancer research for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer. Almost all hospitals/clinics that treat children with cancer in the US and Canada are part of the COG (including…St Jude Children’s Research Hospital…), which includes more than 200 centers in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand.

Being federally funded, this means there is a critical shortage of sufficient funds to conduct their research. So if you are in a giving mood, we suggest one of the following foundations as beneficiaries. They have been very generous to Children’s Oncology Group and fill the gap in funding enabling our group to continue with this important work.
